PEGASUS ‘A’ THE ONLY TEAM IN LEAGUE WITH A 100% RECORD
Pegasus A are the only remaining team left in the Colchester & District
Table Tennis League that have a perfect record having played seven, won
seven. Two more wins, 9-1 against Dedham B and 7-3 against Lawford B takes
them seventeen points clear at the top of Division Three. Steve Noble
has been a good acquisition for Pegasus and was joined in winning his
three by Pete Mills although Clive Forster slipped up losing 12-10 in
the fifth set to Dedham ’s Stephen Haygren. Mark Nowers stood alone
for Lawford B beating all three Pegasus players only dropping one set
inflicting Steve Nobles first defeat in the process. Clairmont A have
quietly risen to third place and this week they hammered H20 Rowhedge
F 10-0 with maximums for James Tindle, Jack Kennedy and Paul Hewitt. Pegasus
B drop to fourth following a surprise 6-4 defeat by their ‘C’
team, no player was unbeaten, youngster Toby Turner coming closest just
losing out to Roy Miller 11-9 in the fifth end. However, the score line
was reversed against Lawford B with Mark Nowers rich vein of form continuing
in completing another maximum to bring the two teams level in fifth place.
Tollesbury B’s miserable start continued with a fourth straight
defeat, Keith Armes three wins leading his Gt Horkesley D team to a 6-4
win.
The vastly experienced team of St Mary’s E have taken over at the
top of Division Four with Ivan Jarred once again on the mark taking a
hat trick of wins as the West Bergholt team won 8-2 against Lawford D.
Pegasus D beat a two player H20 Rowhedge H by the same score as the two
Colchester juniors James Swabey and Andrew Harvey dominated the match
with Swabey winning the head to head 8-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-9, 13-11 in
an epic match! CRGS B slipped from the top after failing to turn up at
Gt Horkesley E and therefore conceding the ten points.
In Division One H20 Rowhedge A lost at home for the first time ever surprisingly
it was at the hands of Walton A, 6-4 a record that goes back more than
five years and over fifty matches! Kevin James played a blinder for the
seaside team winning his three games. With Dave Cole playing this week
however, they bounced back to beat Gt Horkesley A 7-3 as he won three
and Greg Green just missed out on a maximum losing 11-9 in the fifth to
wily Jim Farrow from Ipswich who also beat Kevin Gowlett. Gowlett took
just one win for the first time this season as he also lost to Richard
Goodhand. St Mary’s A are back to second as they returned to winning
ways beating Walton B 6-4, Sue Welham’s double the highlight of
the evening.
H20 Rowhedge D head Division Two although they have played two more games
than Walton C and they made short work of Tollesbury A 10-0 as Phil Smith,
Lawrence Wilcox and Jon Ward went through the evening without defeat.
St Mary’s C are joint second but also have played two more than
Walton and that man Martin Edwards was once again their star player winning
his three with consummate ease in straight sets as his team beat Gt Horkesley
C 6-4. Anchor Press are fourth and they beat a two player St Peters 9-1
as messrs Warren and Speller rolled-back the clock for the Tiptree team.
Graham Mortimer returned from injury to lead Gt Horkesley A to a comfortable
8-2 win against Lawford A including a tight five set win over Suffolk
county player Sian Cook who won Lawford’s two points.
