HADCOCK TREBLE TAKES CRGS TO THE TOP
Colchester Royal Grammar School ‘A’ have reached the summit
of Division Four of the Colchester & District Table Tennis League
thanks mainly to sixth form student Alex Hadcock. Hadcock recorded his
fifth maximum of the season following the teams wins against Lawford C,
Gt Horkesley F and H20 Rowhedge G. CRGS beat Lawford 7-3 with Joe Skemia
like Hadcock unbeaten. His team demolished Gt Horkesley F 10-0 who were
a player short, Dan Malcolm joining his two young team mates unbeaten
which means he is now a permanent member of the ‘A’ team having
won seven for the higher team. It was a closer result against Rowhedge
for whom Geoff King and Jess Page both won two but it was young Hadcock’s
treble that sealed the win.
In the tightest division of all St Mary’s D are joint top having
played one game more and following a close 6-4 win over Gt Horkesley E
surprisingly went down 7-3 to the fast improving H20 Rowhedge H youngsters.
Cadet Mark Smith, completing a trio of father’s and sons playing
in the Colchester league once again impressed for Rowhedge taking his
tally of wins to seventeen out of eighteen and two more Cadet’s,
Andrew Harvey and Grant Donaldson won two and one respectively. Despite
only fielding two players Gt Horkesley put up a spirited fight against
St Mary’s with Denise Thomson picking up good wins over the more
experienced John Lander and Wally Edwards but just missing out to Peter
Digby 6-11, 13-11,11-8, 6-11, 11-9. Pegasus D are third two points behind
despite losing to fifth placed CRGS B 6-4 as Keith Club’s fourth
straight maximum was not enough to stave off defeat. However, they brushed
aside H20 Rowhedge G 10-0, Club joined by James Swabey and Kevin Turner
unbeaten on the night. Fourth place Lawford C are only three points from
the top as they brushed aside their B team 10-0 but were held to a 5-5
draw by Gt Horkesley E’s lady’s team where no player won their
three. Lawford’s Andrea Alleyne with two wins came closest narrowly
going down in five sets to Denise Thompson. Two of the Division’s
top players met in the CRGS B v H20 Rowhedge H fixture and Peter Li came
out on top inflicting Mark Smith’s first defeat in Colchester in
three straight sets as his Grammar school team won 8-2. Smith was back
to maximum winning ways as his Rowhedge team accounted for their ‘G’
team 7-3. Lawford D have dropped to the bottom following a 7-3 defeat
at home to Gt Horkesley F swapping places at the same time. Yasmin Ticquet
and Matthew Paddock were their top scorers both completing maximums with
Dale Young their other winner.
