SHORE SHINES IN ROWHEDGE BATTLE
Second placed H20 Rowhedge B overcame their more experienced ‘C’
team 8-2 with Mike Shore , the youngest player in the match at just sixteen
outscoring his team mates with an excellent treble. It was John Andrews
that put up most resistance as he scored brilliant wins over Antony Greenwood
and Michael Andrews and took Shore all the way before losing 11-5 in the
final set. The previous week they won a much tighter affair 6-4 at home
to Rayne. Steve Kerns was the stumbling block as he won his three, only
dropping one set to Antony Greenwood who like Michael Andrews won two.
However, they still lost ground to their ‘A’ team who lead
the Colchester & District league Division One as they whitewashed
Dedham A 10-0. Alan Burgess playing up joined the consistent Kevin Gowlett
and Greg Green in achieving the perfect result. Gowlett took his fourth
consecutive maximum and ninth in all as his team moved twelve points clear.
In Division Two Walton C are fifteen points clear of second placed H20
Rowhedge D who were given no favours by their wily ‘E’ team
in a 5-5 draw. Fred Button led the way with a fine treble including five
set encounters against Peter Giles and Peter Kirkland. Tony Price won
two for the ‘E’ team. There was a similar result in the Anchor
Press v Gt Horkesley B clash with Michael Rostoft at his best, unbeaten
and Janet Faiers denied her maximum by Ray George who won two as well
for Anchor Press.
Pegasus A are romping Division Three and they completed twelve straight
wins with a convincing 9-1 defeat of Tollesbury A. Rob King was the sole
winner for the Blackwater team as he had a tight five set win over Clive
Forster. Pete Mills and Steve Noble were both victorious in all their
games. St Mary’s D are second and they slipped up losing 7-3 to
Lawford B with Mark Nowers proving too strong for a weakened West Bergholt
side without the services of John Sorrell and Mick Bowles. Clairmont A
are just one point off the promotion spot as they turned a draw into an
8-2 win with Pegasus B fielding an ineligible player.
Gt Horkesley E are the movers and shakers in Division Four and they completed
their fifth 10-0 result of the season in the all female clash against
Lawford D as well as a whitewash against a two player H20 Rowhedge G.
They go up two places to third, a point behind CRGS A but their luck ran
out in a 9-1 defeat when the two teams met. Alex Hadcock and Dan Malcolm
both won three but were both beaten by Mark Smith who continues to impress.
Unfortunately these were the only wins his team gathered as H20 Rowhedge
H lost 7-3. Pegasus D are just one point on from CRGS at the top as like
Horkesley ‘E’ they beat bottom team Lawford D by the maximum
score line, Sandy Isaic, Kevin Turner and Andrew Cousins all unbeaten.
It was a different story against Lawford C however, with the spoils shared,
Keith Clubb losing his one hundred percent season record in the process
to Steve Mason who in turn lost to James Swabey as no single player won
their three. Andrea Alleyne scored two good wins in what is proving to
be the closest fought division of the four with Lawford just five points
off the lead in fourth place as Mason and Alleyne went one better in an
8-2 win at St Mary’s E.
