& Views from the Colchester Table Tennis League 9th December 2008 Last season’s virtually forgotten Colchester and District Table Tennis League Division One champions H20 Rowhedge A have stormed back into the reckoning following five straight wins. The latest came courtesy of two rearranged fixtures both by an 8-2 score line against Walton A and C. Dave Cole remains unbeaten so far this season and he was joined by Kevin Gowlett in winning all six of their singles in both matches. After a fruitless opening three matches they have shown renewed intent and providing Cole plays most games they could pose a threat to their second placed B team as well as leaders Gt Horkesley A who they still have to play before Christmas. They sit third, thirteen points adrift with the result against Horkesley pivotal in their quest to retain the title! Three wins apiece for Graham Mortimer and Keith Armes has moved Lawford A up to fourth as they accounted for Clairmont 9-1 despite five games going the full five set distance. This leaves Clairmont without a win four points adrift at the bottom and in serious danger of a swift return to Division Three. In Division Three H20 Rowhedge’s F team like their A team have moved up to third just one point off the promotion spot courtesy of a 10-0 whitewash of bottom team CRGS A. Ed Rudge, Tom Jackson starred dropping only one set between them in a one-sided match. In the Kiltie Cup Rayne A from Division One as expected had an easy 9-0 win over Division Three high flyers Lawford B. The closest Lawford came to a win was Peter Armes brave effort against Dave Moles, just missing out 11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 10-12, 13-15. H20 Rowhedge D are still on for a ‘treble’ as they stretched their one hundred percent record to twelve league and cup matches with an 8-1 win over third division leaders St Peters A. Hazel Hume beat Carl Fenner to take the telecom teams only point. In Group two Dedham A won the deciding doubles 13-11 in the final end to record a narrow 5-4 win over Pegasus D as Andy Franklin won both his singles for Dedham and teamed up with Dale Everett to take the all important doubles. Pegasus A fought back from 4-3 down to win 5-4 against fellow Division Two team Walton D. Martin Edwards won his two singles but missed out in the deciding doubles against Clive Forster and Pete Mills 11-4 in the final set. In a third last game decider H20 Rowhedge F edged out Lawford A as young Andrew Harvey took the man-of-the-match winning his singles in style.
