& Views from the Colchester Table Tennis League 13th Mar 2010 In a close fought and tactical battle between Rowhedge’s top two teams it was the ‘B’ team that triumphed 5-4 and take the Kiltie cup. The ‘A’ team drew first blood as the recently crowned Colchester Men’s Doubles champions; Michael Andrews and Antony Greenwood accounted for David Moss and Kevin Gowlett in four sets, the third 11-1 after leading 10-0!.Game two was a repeat of the Men’s Singles final with Andrew Mudie extracting revenge in three straight sets to tie things up. Joslin was unable to find his usual control as Mudie did not let him settle into a groove. Greenwood then accounted for Moss also in three straight sets, his power and consistency proving too much. There then followed a run of three wins for the ‘B’ team to take them to the brink at 4-2. Gowlett beat Andrews in a five set thriller and Mudie and Moss beating Joslin and Andrews in four, from a set down. Man-of-the-match Mudie then won a crucial singles against the in-form Greenwood in another match to go the full distance. At two sets up and 8-6 down Kevin Gowlett looked to have won the match but Joslin was having none of it fighting back wining the next five points and take the victory in five sets. Michael Andrews then levelled the match at 4-4 with a four set win over David Moss setting the scene for a tense finale. Moss and Mudie held their nerve to beat Joslin and Andrews, dropping just one set and with it the Kiltie cup which has now eluded the league champions for the past two seasons.
